Enjoy learning the skills of applying gold leaf with exquisite effect and painting with gouache using a fine brush to create your own illuminated initial. We will be working on Roman-style capitals decorated in a White Vine design, inspired by Italian manuscripts. The letters are gilded then embellished using three colours with subtle finishing touches that make the letters sing. The traditional colours of vermillion, ultramarine and oxide of chromium (green) produce a classic initial, while a combination of different hues or colours produces a more personal piece. I always enjoy teaching this style and it will be exciting to revisit it again with fresh ideas. You'll be carefully guided through the process of tracing down, gilding, decorating and detailing to produce a beautifully finished handmade letter. Suitable for all levels of ability. The workshop will be live via Zoom in two 2-hour sessions with an hour's lunch break. • The morning runs from 10am to midday • The afternoon runs from 1pm to 3pm • A further 30-minute session for questions and sharing will round off the day This course requires you to download the free Zoom app. A link to join the class will be sent near the date. Video recordings of the sessions will be made available for 3 months. As the materials and tools for this project are specialist and varied, I'm offering a kit containing pre-cut paper, tracedown, gold size, gold leaf, gouache, brushes, plus other items you will need. The box of materials costs £20 including postage within the UK. Last order date for kits is FRIDAY 21 NOVEMBER.
