Bookmaking is a fantastic way to explore your artistic side and create something truly special. With the right materials, techniques, and a little bit of imagination, you can make beautiful handmade books that reflect your personality and style.
In this workshop we will learn how to prepare and build flag books. They derive their name from a series of 'flags' that are attached to an accordion-style base that form a dynamic and interactive structure. Using this technique you can build one-of-a-kind books that shows off your artistic flair. Their construction allows them to be displayed flat as pop-up type books or vertically to form 3D sculptures. Specific colour scheme, a favourite quote, or a special memory, the theme you choose will guide the design process to help you create a cohesive and meaningful piece or pieces. Your flags can be made of paper, fabric or other materials, scraps or cut shapes. They can have any images, patterns, words, shapes or colours you choose. By repurposing old materials and incorporating them into your designs, you can add a personal touch and make each book truly unique. Whether you prefer a minimalist style or a more elaborate design, the possibilities are endless. We'll begin the day with a short introduction about bookmaking basics (terminology, materials, tools, and so on) then we'll work step-by-step through the stages of your project, producing their components before assembling the finished articles. Suitable for all levels of ability. Whether you are a seasoned artist or a beginner looking to try something new, this offers a creative outlet for all. A list of items to bring with you will be provided once you have signed up. Some materials will be provided but there will also be a selection of papers, boards, etc available to buy on the day. I estimate the cost of materials to be between £10-£15. Fees are non-refundable except in the event of cancellation by the tutor. £60 This workshop is now full.
